How to Avoid a Recruitment Scam

Looking For A Job, Resume Surgery Advice

The rise of the internet, although great for job searches, has paved the way for online scammers. Scams can come in a number of forms online but usually they involve a scammer emailing you and asking for personal details. Scams have now hit some recruitment outlets so we’ve listed below some tips on how to avoid them.

  • Look out for emails from unknown addresses.  Some scammers will pose as a recruitment company and ask for personal information. Try to verify the address before answering any questions – ask friends and use Google to see if it’s a legitimate company.
  • Avoid giving out personal information like your account number and sort code to potential recruiters. This won’t be needed unless you actually get offered a job so you shouldn’t have to reveal this information straight away.
  • Check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Sometimes scammers use computer software to hack accounts and it should be pretty obvious if you’ve received a message from a computer.
  • Only send your resume to employers and recruiters that you trust. Spend time doing your research to ensure your resume lands in good hands.
